Maria Coppenrath, CPA, joined Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center in April 2011 as Director of Finance. She is an experienced corporate finance director and CPA who has over 23 years of experience in auditing, accounting and finance, specializing in federally qualified community health centers. Her strong healthcare expertise, which includes third party billing, federal and state grants/contracts, internal controls and compliance with federal regulations, state regulations, payroll, accounts payable, financial statement review and preparation, reporting and budgeting, enabled her to move into the position of Chief Financial Officer and Vice President, Finance, after the previous CFO resigned. Her responsibilities include managing and supervising the accounting/finance and billing departments made up of 21staff including billing, accounts payable, grants and contracts, payroll and general accounting & finance.
Previously, she was the Director of Finance at Harbor Health Services, located in Mattapan, MA, which is also a federally qualified community health center. She was employed there from October 2005 until April 2011. At Harbor Health, she managed and supervised the accounting and finance departments made up of 11 staff who processed payroll and accounts payable, and were responsible for the general accounting, budgeting and financial analysis. Her departments were also responsible for grants and contracts.
Ms. Coppenrath has also worked at Alexander, Aronson, Finning & Co. P.C, Westborough, MA, as an Audit Manager from July 1999 to October 2005 and as an experienced senior accountant from 1998 to 1999. From July 1996 – July 1998, she worked at the Memorial Medical Group, Worcester, MA, as a Practice Management Accountant. As a Massachusetts-licensed CPA, she is a member of the Massachusetts Society of CPA’s (MSCPA) and the American Institute of CPA’s (AICPA). Maria is also a member of the National Association of Community Health Centers and is a member of the Subcommittee of Health Center Financing. She is also a board member of the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers and an advisory Board Member of Commonwealth Purchasing Group.
