WORCESTER- Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center received a grant from the Massachusetts Development Finance Agency towards implementing a new electronic medical records system. Teen Donates 1,600 Books for Children

December 14, 2011-Westboro High School junior Emma Biggert recently delivered boxes of new and gently used children’s books to the Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center in Worcester and Framingham. Emma organized a book drive last month in memory of her late cousin and the charitable organization named for him, the Jake Maxfield Connection, which supports scholarship, literacy and community service. Emma personally delivered the books to the health center locations in Worcester and in Framingham. With Emma’s efforts, we have nearly 1,600 books to give to our patients. We are so thankful to Emma and her family for their hard work and generosity!

Peer Leaders Receive Meredith Wesby Young Leader Award

On September 22, three of Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center’s peer leaders received the Meredith Wesby Young Leader Award. They were recognized for their leadership in our community, commitment to educating and mentoring youth, and serving as role models to the young women they work with. We are proud to work with dynamic, strong, and determined young women. Congratulations Yelitza, Dayanara, and Sheliah!

Toni McGuire Awarded 2011 John Gilbert Award

Study Shows Health Centers Create Jobs and Provide Healthcare to the Underserved

On September 14, 2011, a study by the Geiger Gibson/RCHN Community Health Foundation Research Collaborative at the George Washington University showed that federal investment in Community Health Centers not only increases access to care to medically underserved populations, but also creates thousands of good jobs in the communities that need them the most. Worcester Healthy Start Celebrated Healthy Babies with Birthday Party

On Friday, August 19, the Worcester Healthy Start Initiative held its 11th annual birthday party to celebrate the healthy babies born into the Healthy Start family in the past year. The event included lunch, gifts, face painting, and raffle prizes drawn by Senator Michael Moore, Senator Harriette Chandler, and Representative James O’Day. This fun event was a great way to see the difference that equal access to medical care and social support services can make for families.

Through community involvement, case management, and educational programming, Worcester Healthy Start strives to improve the health and well-being of all mothers, babies, and families in the Worcester area.
