In 1972, seven pioneering women joined together to challenge the status quo in health care and founded Kennedy Community Health.  They lived in the largest public housing complex in Central Massachusetts and were tired of a system that didn’t promote health equity, meet or address the needs of their family and friends, and didn’t provide access to preventative health services for the community’s most vulnerable.  They were not alone in their frustration; since our founding 50 years ago, Kennedy Community Health has grown exponentially to meet demand for better, more equitable and more responsive health care across MetroWest and Central Massachusetts.  We now serve over 28,500 patients across our nine clinical sites in Worcester, Milford and Framingham and partner with dozens of community-based and health organizations to provide a full range of services aimed to address not only physical and mental health, but that also address the social determinants of health.

Fifty years of service is a true accomplishment, but in remaining true to the vision of our seven founding mothers, it is neither the end nor is it the pinnacle in Kennedy Community Health’s journey.  Our mission to help people live healthier lives is not stagnant, and while we have been working towards that mission every day for the past five decades, we must press forward.  These past few years have highlighted the grave consequences of inequities that persist to this day in the health care system.  Kennedy Community Health was founded and remains committed to the idea that health care is a right, not a privilege and that everyone deserves to receive excellent, comprehensive care, regardless of their ability to pay.  At our core, we are still focused on providing inclusive, responsive, compassionate and comprehensive care but this is not something we can do on our own.

We are asking you to commit to this journey, too.  Please make the pledge and sign up as a monthly supporter.  If we can get 50 people to donate $50 a month in honor of our 50th anniversary, this support will go a long way in ensuring Kennedy Community Health has the resources it needs to carry this mission into the next 50 years and rise to meet the ever-changing needs of our community.  Let’s do this together.
